Pirates Sweep Weekend 5/2/10
SPAM Challenge  6/21/10

The Pirates travel to Austin, MN this weekend to play in the annual SPAM Challenege, an uber competitive tournament that hosts 16 teams in 4, 4 team brackets.  There is a round robin format in each bracket and the winner of each bracket goes on to Sunday to play in the championship round.  This year the Pirates will play VeePak from Chicago, Shokapee, MN and Austin, MN Blue Sox in what should amount to a very tough bracket.  VeePak took 2nd place in last year's tournament, Shokapee was the Minnesota Class B state champs and the Austin Blue Sox are atheltic with good pitching.  Last week was a confidence builder as the Pirates limped into Tuesday's game in Red Wing.  Mike Labarber shut down the Aces after a first inning run as the Pirates won 7-1.  Saturday Hager City came to town and the bats were out in full force.  The Pirates put up 22 hits and score 25 runs in a 25-1 trouncing of the Southern Division foe.  See ya at the park.

Pirate's Hold On Against Hubbers 5/9/10
The Ellsworth Hubbers and fans came to Prescott Sunday on a fine day at Fire Hall Field.  The game was scoreless until the 2nd inning when Alex Ross singled home a pair and in the 4th, the Pirates tacked on a couple more to put them up 4-0.  Nick Johnson was again on the bump and he wiggled his way through a tough Hubber lineup until the 5th inning when J.P. Paulsen double home two to cut the deficit in half.  Johnson buckled down in the later innings and withstood Ellsworth rally in the 9th.  With one out and a man on first, Chris Terrazas made a great barehand stab on a ball that was going over his head to force an out at second.  Scott Dewyre poped out to second to end the game and give the Pirates a 2-0 record in SCVBL play.

Pirates Sweep Weekend

The Pirates opened up the season Saturday with a 4-1 victory over Pine Island, Mn.  Alex Ross was pressed into pitching detail with the Pirates low on players early on and threw a fine game.  Ross also had the game winning hit as he drove in two runs to put the Pirates up 2-1 in the 5th.  On Sunday, the Plum City Blues came to Fire Hall Field for an early SCVBL showdown.  Nick Johnson went the entire distance to help the Pirates to a  3-2 defeat of the Blues.  Prescott jumped out to an early lead as Nick Thoen's two run double capped off a three run third inning. The Blues fought back on a solo homerun in the 5th, and in the 7th, the Blues had the baseloaded with no one out but Johnson induced a ground ball double play to only allow one run to score.  Next up for the Pirates is Ellsworth next Sunday in Prescott at 1.
