2011 Game Summaries

Nice Weekend

Nick Johnson started the weekend off on a positive note with a CG shutout of the Osceola Braves on Friday.  The offense still isn't completely clicking but were able to scratch across 4 runs early to give Johnson some breathing room.  Saturday, Garrett Choate kept Plum City off balance through five innings and Luke Huebner came in to collect a 4 inning save.  Chuck Block hit a two run triple to put the Pirates up 3-0 in the 2nd and came in on Brian Johnson's hot shot to 1B.  Overall it was a successful weekend putting the Pirates 6-2 in conference with two more conference games coming up next weekend.

Pirates Start Season 2-1

The Pirates opened the season with a 7-0 win over Hudson as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Chris Terrazas's 3 run HR.  Nick Johnson picked up the W by pitching 5 relief innings after Mark Moriarty started the game.  The squad dropped a game to New Richmond after posting three runs on another Terrazas HR in the first.  New Richmond battled back to tie the score in the 5th, again in the 6th and took the lead the in the 7th after what was considered a minor melee.  The Pirates bounced back Sunday with a solid victory over Ellsworth who battled until the end.  Brian Johnson's two run single in the 7th put the Pirates up for good.  No bench clearing events....which was nice!
