Pirates 4, Ellsworth Hubbers
2 05/05/02 The Pirates started the season off on the right step with a 4-2 victory over the Ellsworth Hubbers. Matt Monteith started the game and pitched four scoreless innings, Jon Doering threw the next two innings giving up one unearned run, Brian Briske threw a perfect 7th inning, Bart Matzek worked out of trouble in the 8th and Mike Hunter gave up one run but picked up his first save of the season. Jon Doering got the win, his first career Pirate victory. Buck Hendrickson was perfect in the leadoff spot with three singles and a walk, which led to a two run first inning. With runners at second and thrid, Brent Pattridge hit a sacrafice fly to score the first and an error allowed the second run to cross the plate. In the third, again the Pirates had runners on second and third with nobody out and the heart of their lineup up, but they weren't able to push a run across. Again in the seventh, the bases were loaded for Brady Randolph, but he hit liner right at the second baseman who stepped on second to double off Jason Bayer to end the rally. Mike Westberg scored the third run on a pass ball and they were able to scratch another run later in the game. They collected only six hits but started to swing the bats much better late in the game as it took them a few at-bats to adjust to using the wood. Jason Bayer added, "We really need to know how to control our wood." WP- Jon Doering LP- Darren Maxwell S- Mike Hunter |

Matt Monteith took the loss, but he pitch very well until he tired in the sixth. "Bloody" Bart Matzek came in relief and couldn't stop the bleeding as he gave up two more in the seventh. Prescott had many opportunites to break through against Eagles pitcher Brian Bee, but they couldn't get the clutch hit. The only Pirate to collect more than one hit was Brady Randolph who had three. "Our performance at the plate was Mudd" added Ryan Hendrickson. WP-Brian Bee LP-Matt Monteith. |

Hitting Derails Pirates 05/25/02 - 05/27/02 In the annual Plum City tourneyment, Prescott got off on the right foot with a 10-0 victory over Tilden. Matt Montieth picked up the five inning victory by only giving up two hits and only one runner reached 2nd base. The Pirates leading hitters were Roddy Hjort, Mike Westberg and Chuck Babcock with two hits a piece. Up next was Menomonie when the Pirates jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first with a two run double by Brent Pattridge and a two run homer by Mike Westberg, the Pirates first home run this year. Brian Briske ran into some trouble in the 4th when his command faded and the B-eagles began to score at a rampid pace. He gave up six run in three innings allowing four hits. Prescott couldn't get back on the board and suffered their second loss this season to Menomonie, 7-4. For third place, Prescott played Spring Valley and the Pirates must have left their hitting shoes at home as they could only muster four hits against some puss bag with a rag arm. The Pirates had many chances to score but couldn't come through with a clutch hit. The Pirates loss 4-1 to drop their record to 2-3, with "Bloody" Bart Matzek taking the loss. Roddy Hjort went 3-4 with a jack to lead the Pirates in the horrific display of baseball. Maybe next year the Pirates could go to bed before 5 am and be ready to play, but hey, it is the Plum City tournament and everybody gets jugged. |

Jumps Into First Place With Win 06/08/02 The Pirates pulled out a big victory against the Plum City Blues with a 5-4 ninth inning win. Plum City jumped out first with a run early in the game, but Prescott score twice to take the lead. With the score tied at 2-2, Cullen McDermott plated Brady Randolph with a triple to give the Pirates a 3-2 lead. In the 8th, Randolph doubled, was sacraficed to third by Brent Pattridge, then plated by Mike Westberg's single to right to tack on a very important run. In the 9th, Bart Matzek walked the lead off hitter and gave up a single, only to give way to Cullen McDermott who threw a wild pitch to put the runners on second and third with no one out. The next batter hit a flyball which scored the runner at third, but the runner on second didn't tag up. McDermott then induced another flyball to make two outs with the runner still on second. With the count at 0-2, McDermott left a pitch up in the zone and Zach Watkins took advantage by driving a rbi double down the righ field line. In the bottom of the ninth, an error allowed Chab Babcock to take first base and his second stolen base of the day put him on second. A wild pitch moved him up to third when Ryan Hendrickson hit a sacrafice fly to left field to score Babcock and give the Pirates the victory. Clutch Hitting Derails Pirates 6/12/02 The Prescott Pirates fail on many opportunities early in Wednesdays game against Cannon Falls and found themselves on the wrong side of the score. Eric Tobias was making his first start as a Pirate and pitched very well but couldn't get out of the first inning without giving up two runs, one by a pass ball on Mike Westberg and another on an error by Jason Bayer. Tobias went six innings, giving up three hits, 2 runs, one earned and had 8 punchouts. In the 7th inning, Chad Tousley made his Pirate debut also and ran into some bad luck as the umpire really botched a called strike three which extened the inning and he allowed four runs to score. Of course, Bayer threw gas on the fire with another friken error. Prescott finally got on the board in the 8th by back to back doubles by Brent Pattridge and Cullen McDermott. All in all, the Pirates would have looked better using a purse to swing with, rather than a bat, totalling 15 k's. "I hate playing at this f'n field, I just can't see the ball well" said Jason Bayer after the game. Bayer has had a string of bad luck at Cannon Falls and we were hoping he was going to face the deamons and play well, but it is hard when your asshole is puckered so tight you can't get a needle in there. I am so dissapointed about the outcome, I am not even going to list the leading hitters because there isn't much to list. |

Loses Tough Game 6/22/02 The Pirates were dealt a tough loss to Hudson as they were upended 2-1. After a 20 hit performance the game before, Prescott could only muster 4 hits and left 9 costly runners on base. Both starters pitched well as Brian Rudesill was issued the win and Brian Briske took the hard loss. Hudson scored the first run on a two out walk followed by a double. Prescott's retardedness allowed the winning run to score as the fans thought the circus came to town. With runners on first an second, a ground ball was hit to Roddy Hjort at second and it went off his glove into left where Brady Randolph foolishly let the ball roll under his glove, allowing the run to score. The loss dropped the Pirates to 2-2 in conference and 5-5 overall. "I can't be leave I let the f**king ball roll under my f**king glove. Maybe I should think about playing in old F**ks league with OF," were the words of Randolph after the game. |

Blow Lead, Come Back to Win 6/26/02 Prescott used a two run homer in the 10th inning from Cullen McDermott to spring board themselves over the Spring Valley Hawks. But, the Pirates had to make it interesting in the 9th when starter Matt Monteith walked the leadoff batter and was relieved by McDermott who picked up the win in relief. McDermott gave up a two out single to center to tie the game at five. "Cullen just wanted the win," was Monteith's response to McDermott giving up the tying run and hitting the game winning homerun. Monteith pitch great giving up only two earned runs on three hits and striking out 7. Roddy Hjort got off the schnide with a home run and Charlie Babcock had two hits to help the Pirates win their third conference game of the year. After the game, Fuzzy Monteith added "If Bayer would stop trying to field the ball with his feet, the game wouldn't have been so close." |

Hold On to Defeat Chaseburg/ Coon Valley 08/10/02 Mike Westberg hit two home runs and Brent Pattridge hit another to lead the Prescott Pirates to a first round victory over the No. 1 seed, Chaseburg/ Coon Valley. Cullen McDermott pitched 6 solid innings to pick up the victory and Brian Brieske made it interesting, but got the job done and pitched the final three innings to earn the save. The Pirates had many chances to blow the game open by leaving a small army on the base paths, but with the Pirates trailling 4-3 in the 6th, Jason Bayer hit a sacrafice fly to tie the score and Ryan Hendrickson squeezed home Jonny Gleasener to give the Pirates the lead. In the bottom of the 8th, the Pirates added three more runs with a rbi single by Brady Randolph followed up by a two-run homerun by Mike Westberg to give Prescott a four run lead which proved to be needed. In the 9th, Brieske got into some trouble by walking the leadoff hitter and by some bad luck with a perfect double play ball hitting a foot print and bouncing over Roddy Hjort's head. But the Pirates prevailed and pulled out a good victory. |
| What a Relief! 8/11/02 The Pirates advanced to the WBA state playoffs with a 5-3 victory over the Bloomer Woodticks and it felt like the weight of the world was lifted off of their shoulders. This is the Pirates first state appearance after six painfull years of choking. Matt Monteith threw 8 solid innings only giving up 3 runs, Jason Bayer went 3-4 with two clutch rbi's, John Gleasener added three hits and Mike Hunter relieved Montieth in the 9th to pitch a nerve racking, but well deserving save. Augusta is the site of the state playoffs and the Pirates will be playing conference rival, the Hudson River Rats. The game will start at 10:30 Saturday morning and if Prescott wins, they will face the Oulu-Osseo match-up at 7:30 that night. Buck Hendrickson will not be able to play because he is in Greg Anger's wedding, so the Pirates drafted Lance Watkins, a second baseman and leadoff hitter from the Plum City Blues. Watkins will serve as a backup infielder and pinch hitter or runner because of the loss Hendrickson's services. "I will do anything you guys ask me to do, lets just win it all" stated Watkins after he heard he was drafted by the Pirates. |
Sorry about not updating the rest of the games, the webmaster was depressed because the Pirates was their longest losing streak in team history. But, the Pirates turned it around in time to make it to the WBA state playoffs. |
