Pirates 12, Menomonie 2 5/18/03
The bats broke loose as Chad Babcock went 3-4, and Chuck Babcock and Chad Tousley each went 2-4 to lead the Pirates to a big 12-2 victory over the Eagles of Menomonie. Matt Monteith recorded his first victory of the season with five solid innings, Tousley pitched the sixth and seventh, Bart Matzek pitched the eigth and there wasn't a ninth inning because of the 10 run rule. Tousley, Eric Halverson, Matt Poliak and Josh Tri all made their season debuts which really seemed to light a fire under all the older Pirate players. "I like having those young kids there. It seemed like it brought some new energy to our team. As long as they are reliable (and I think they will be) they can help us a lot" added Jason Bayer in an email earlier today. The Pirates raise their record to 1-1 in conference and overall play. Up next is the Plum City tournament where the Pirates will again face Menomonie, but look for both teams to add talent. The Pirates will hopefully have Eric Tobias, Nick Johnson and Nick Thoen ready in time to compete for the first place trophey.

Pirates lose tough game against rival
Ellsworth Hubbers 9-1 on a damp, cold day at Firehall Field. Mike
Hunter drew the opening day start and showed a little rust from the
offseason by leaving a few pitches up in the zone for the Hubbers to hit.
Hubbers pitching scattered nine hits and only allowed one run to take an
early lead on the Southern Conference standings. |
