Chad Tousley pitched 8 shutout innings to help the Pirates defeat New Richmond 9-0 to increase their conference record to 7-3. "Chad had good command of the strike zone as he was able to keep the Miller hitters off balance," said catcher Nick Thoen. The defense, well, actually played well for a change as the Pirates didn't commit an error for the first time since the Reagan era (it seems like). The hitting was sufficient but we still need to work on a take sign with Toby, he thinks it means a bunt back to the pitcher. The last four games haven't been pretty and that is an understatement. The Pirates have dropped 3 or their last 4 and they enter Sunday's match up against the Millers of New Richmond in dire need of a good pitching performance followed up by some quality defense. The hitting still continues to be the strength of the team but we all know games are won with pitching and defense as is why they have struggled lately.
Prescott continued its hot hitting as they beat Miesville 12-5 on a beautiful night at Jack Ruhr Field. Chad Tousley threw 6 innings picking up his 3rd win of the season and DJ Eggers came in to earn his 2nd save of the season. Nick Thoen hit a 2-run HR and Alex Ross and Mike Soma each had three hits to lead the offensive attack as the Pirates have scored over 10 runs for the 3rd straight game and 7th time this year. Pirates Take Down St. Paul Mudhens It took a few innings for the Pirate offense to wake up, but when they did, the bats tallied 11 runs in 8 innings. Josh Tri picked up another victory on the season as he threw 7 strong innings. The game was stopped at the end of 8 due to darkness. The Pirates travel to Miesville tonight (8:00) as it is Papa Charitos sponsored night. If you arrive early to the ballpark, they are serving tacos and beers down the left field line. The last two weeks were a struggle for the Pirates as they played a terrible brand of baseball that including poor execution of defense, base running and clutch hitting. This all reared its ugly head last Saturday when they stranded 15 base runners in a 3-0 loss to Austin. Last night, the Pirates may have played a game that could turn a season around. Chad Tousley pitched 8 strong innings and had a strong supporting cast behind him. The offense was led by Jason Amidon, Justin Tobias and Brady Randolph as they each recorded three hits in the 10-3 victory. Prescott didn't play their best baseball last weekend as they dropped their first two games by scores of 5-1 to Ellsworth and 6-3 to Spring Valley. But, Chad Tousley returned to the mound to put out the mini fire as he threw 8 solid innings for his first victory of the season. Alex Ross drove in 4 runs to pace the Pirates offensive attack. The Pirates travel to Red Wing on Thursday to take on a tough Rochestor team for the start of the Dewey Tauer Classic Tournament. Friday's game in Ellsworth will be worth the price of admission (which of course is free). Prescott earlier lost 1-0 to the Hubbers in the Plum City Tournament and are looking to get off the snide against Mr. Schultz. The Pirates come into the game after losing to the Bobcats of Burnsville in the bottom of the ninth, 7-6. DJ Eggers pitched very well but the Pirate defense didn't support him as they made 5 errors.
Pirates take 3rd in Plum City Memorial Day Tourney 5/29/2006 The Pirates rebounded after losing to Ellsworth 1-0 Sunday night as they beat Plum City 13-5. DJ Eggers picked up his 1st Pirate victory as he pitch 5 solid innings. Mike Soma hit his 2nd homer of the tourney, a 3 run shot, over the left field wall. The next game is on Thursday night versus Wesley Homes at Fire Hall Field starting at 6:30. Holt Shuts Down Eagles 5/27/2006 John Holt threw 6 innings without giving up and earned run as the Pirates beat the Menonomie Eagles 12-6. Mike Soma's 3 run homer extended the lead 8-0 as the Pirates offense jumped on the Eagles pitching early and often. The Pirates will play Ellsworth today at 5:30 and will face long time Pirate Jason Bayer as he has joined the Hubbers for the tourney. Pirates Lose in Last Inning 5/24/2006 The Pirates scored two runs in the first but Cottage Grove answered with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning. In the seventh, the score was tied at four when the Pirates tried turning an inning ending double play but a low throw produced an error which plated the winning run. The Pirates were about as enthusiastic as a nun in a whore house and will need to pick up a few notches if they plan on winning the Plum City Tourney.
Six run 1st kick starts Pirates 5/19/2006 John Holt picked up his first win of the season by throwing 5 solid innings, giving up 1 unearned run and striking out 7. Nick Thoen paced the Pirate offensive attack with a pair of doubles. Prescott moves to 2-0 in conference play and will travel to Cottage Grove Wednesday for a tune-up game before the Plum City Memorial Day tournament.
Pirates start season with win! 5/7/2006 Josh Tri pitched seven strong innings to lead the Pirates to an opening day win against long time rival Plum City. Jason Bayer led the Pirates with two hits and Jason Amidon had an rbi single to pace the offense. DJ Eggers made his Pirate debut on the mound and pitch 2 scoreless innings to pick up his first career save. W- Tri 1-0 L- Gardner S- Eggers 1
